Build Your Own Tool Kit

Ahhh, home improvement. Most of us don’t and should not attempt it. If you don’t know what you are doing, you probably shouldn’t be laying your own floor or demoing a wall without knowing where your water pipes are (Ops). But you should know how to level a picture, spackle a wall and turn off your water. Fixing a fuse is something that you are going to have to do in your own place. If your toilet over flows you should know how to turn off the water and not just over look it and hope for the best.

But I’m not going to tell you all of those things (You tube them). I am however going to tell you what you need in a basic tool kit. Guy, girl, first time college student or first time home owner, having a tool kit that is stocked right in not only something you should have but something that you need to have. Stocking it is not hard but you should have these things in it, even if you are buying a premade one from Home Depot.

  • Flash light
  • Hammer
  • Adjustable screw driver (Or a Flat Head and a Phillips Head)
  • Electric Screw Drive (Charged)
  • Level
  • Nails/ Screws
  • Duct Tape
  • Tape Measure
  • Pliers
  • Pencils
  • Utility blades
  • Spackle
  • Putty Knife (To apply spackle)

Make sure that you have everything you need in one bag or space and that the things that are chargeable, are charged (flashlight batteries, drill). You never know when you are going to fix them and the general rule happens to be that this tends to happen when there is a storm and your fuse blows in the basement.
