Making the Perfect Smoothie

I looooove smoothies. But when you buy them they are expensive and are typically loaded with sugar or sweetners. But making a nutritate dense smoothie is an easy art once you know what you are doing and a great way to start the morning or really knock your mid day snack out of the park.

Basically think of your smoothie as a meal. It needs to have all of the things that a balanced meal would have in it: protein, carbs, veggies, fat. All blended up nice and easy and to make it taste yummy!

Step One: Liquid

  • 4-8 ounces (4 for a thicker smoothie, 8 for a thinner smoothie.)
  • Milk
  • Plant based milk
  • Iced green tea
  • Water

Step Two: Protien Powder

Make sure that you find one that suits your needs but also one that doesn’t have thickeners or added sugar in it. I used the Vitimine Shoppe Plant based brand

  • Whey protein
  • Casein protein
  • Pea protein
  • Rice protein
  • Hemp protein

Step Three: Veggie

Spinach is my fav in the dark leafy greens catagory and is tasteless in your smoothie. Beets are great with chocolate and unbeleiveably sweet which is lovely.

  • Dark leafy greens: Spinach / Swiss chard / kale
  • Pumpkin / sweet potato
  • Beets / beet greens
  • Cucumber / celery
  • Powdered greens supplement

Step Four: Fruit

Aim for a cupped handful. I am personally into bananas for their carbs, texture and potassium.

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Berries
  • Cherries
  • Dates
  • Pineapple / mango

Step Five: Fat

  • Walnuts
  • Flax, hemp, chia seeds
  • Cashews
  • Almonds
  • Peanut and nut butters

Blend and feel awesome!!!!
