Above is what Aaptiv totes. Let me first start out by saying two things:
- First and foremost we must agknowledge that when you are new to any sort of training or any new sport, you are taking a risk when you use apps and non personalized training courses. You dont know what you are doing, you move too fast, and you might have bad form or injure yourself. If you are new to working out in general, you do not know the difference in between niggles and real pain that could actually cause lasting damage. What is some peoples “Beginner” isn’t everyones.

A few months ago, when I first started useing this app, I was in love. I recommenaded it to everyone. Now I warn people.
When I got this app, it had a wide variety of training including meditation, rowing and boxing. It was great considering when you run, it can be really easy to just run. I loved it as boxing and rowing were something that I wanted to learn and had no idea where to start.
A few months ago though, all of these things were taken down along with half marathon and the full marathon training plans. When I contacted customer support they told me that they had sent out emails to us, their members saying that they would be cleaning out classes. I never ever got this email and a lot of people in the reviews on Google play say they didn’t either. All the long runs were taken down as well, reducing them to mostly treadmill and 30 minutes and under classes, which when it comes to endurence building is worthless. Entire sections were eliminated including all of those boxing, rowing and most of the meditation classes.
Out of all of this the thing that I found most troubling through was the fact that many of the running classes that were taken down were the ones with moderators. To keep my mileage up in the off season I decided to work on their 10k training plan as the half marathon one was taken down. It focused on speed work which honestly is not something I did alot of. I mainly did it on a track but I could see how a treadmill would be benifical. However, by the time I got to the 3rd week, these work outs were NOT for a training plan focused on the average 10k runner. I consider myself pretty good at short distances but some of these were way too much even for me, getting up to a speed of ten on a treadmill with and incline. With no modifiers for intermediates or beginners, which in a 10k training plan on an app is just plain irresponcible and dangerous.
Before this entire thing started and I was loving the previous incarnation of the app, I had recommended it to my mother to try so that she would have some scheduled work outs. Not only was it glitchy on her phone and there were less beginner classes, by even with the 7 day free trail they charged her card a whopping $175! She has tried to call their customer support 2 as I write this with no luck.
My advice is to look elsewhere for training apps. If you are using it, then be sure that you are really truly listening to your body. If you are a beginner then please do not try and keep up with the treadmill classes and start with the most basic fundamentals of training with an actual trainer (Which you can get for $175!)
